I believe that a lot of punters (entrepreneurs, self employed, employees) and WGs are suffering from Insomnia.I personally go to sleep at around 11 pm and wake up between 2:30 am and 4 am every morning.

I think stress is playing a lot in that as we are not sure what the future is holding there for us. I see top executives have taken a 50% pay cut or are taking a complete salary freeze up to December 2020 to keep blue collar staff in employment and avoid massive redundancy.

What can we do to combat insomnia? Any serious advice is welcome.

Have this problem too but I always had it.

During lockdown, I nap in the day seems to help. At least you're not as drained in the day from sleep deprivation.

During divorce it was extreme, no sleep for days or weeks. Sleeping tablets seemed to help somewhat but I did wake up sleepy and tired. What really helped was exercise. Getting fit does stabilize thecmojd and body. It's the big issue now. I'm doing 20% activity stuck at home and I feel it.

I also have a power nap but try to avoid it just after lunch. I used to have 10000 steps on the beach every morning or afternoon but with the lock down I cannot even go there. Started some yoga exercise this morning. I hope it will help.

Have had it off and on and it sucks.

Yesterday I tried going out side and sitting in the sun for 30min and it actually seemed to help last (got the best sleep this week)

Other things to try that have seemed to have helped previously.

No caffeine after 16:00.

Try to stop working by 18:00 (Find this is mainly about letting your brain actually have time to slow down.)

Alcohol unfortunately decreases sleep quality.

Melatonin if you can get it. Used to be easy, last time I got some you had to say you were jet lagged. Haven't tried to get some for a couple years.

Vitamin D before 12am.

Blue light blocker glasses.

Blue light filter things on tables, phones pc's. Most have it built in news days just need to turn it on.

Trying to not use screens 1 hour before bed. (I'm listening to audio books or podcasts, but this can make it so you want to keep just listening a bit more).

If it's getting really bad speak to your doctor.

The new sleeping pills are far better and don't have that horrible after taste and less groggy in the morning. Still horizontal to come off team but definitely can help break the cycle.

If you are depressed possibly go on medication as seretonin can help with sleep. Also reduction in stress which is one of the causes.

Other ways you can try to get through insomnia is:

Set up a curfew for sleep every night at regular intervals for eg. You decide to sleep at 9/10pm. Skip some of your favorite late night series or shows on Netflix. Or lay off your digital devices in the night time. You can always come back to it if you missed out on anything.

Drink a glass of water each morning (at any given time) first thing when you wake up and get out bed.

Make up your own bed ( especially for those who live on their own). If you have a spouse, make the bed with with them.

Get some light excercise in. You can opt for stretching, yoga or meditation. There are different ways to meditate. Find one that speaks to you.

Personally I am a bathtub person more than a shower person in the mornings. So I soak myself for 10 minutes in some bubble bath with salts just to open up my pores. Carry on for another 10-15 minutes bathing. The shower follows during the day (but can't do lots of showers at this point). Then before going to bed, I squeeze in my night bath. Some people can try squeezing in a quick shower before sleep.

Try and give yourself some me time. Work on yourself from within, even in quietness. Me time is very important.

Go out into the garden or if you don't have one just stare at the trees from afar or if you have plants observe and absorb their beauty. Walk barefooted on your floor for 15 minutes or so. Walk on some grass, look at the sky for a moment and breath in nature's only best. Your eyes need to also concentrate on nature more too then to always concentrate on digital devices. Reading a book helps too.

Have some tea in the mornings and at night before going to sleep, it has some very useful essentials which are better than coffee. You can drink coffee during the day but not lots of it (if you so choose). Those herbal elements can be very good. And staring at that cup of tea as if you're lost in it also helps.

Listen to some soft music (whichever you prefer).

If you have a spouse or partner living with you during this time. Please try having sex or try to make love to her or better yet make love to each other. Find some ways. Play games together (whatever rocks your boat) just don't push it if your ideas are not recipocrated. Bear in mind that there are many ways to make love. It doesn't necessarily mean have sex only. You can always talk and reminisce about good old days. Both of you can spend more time with your kids if they are still living with you. Go through family photo albums and go through some holiday pics or share childhood memories as a family.

If you don't now how to handle being isolated at this point in time. Go wank in the shower in the mornings, just make sure you don't make too much noise. Or else!!!

Try it for 3 days at least and see if the insomnia does give you a break so that your mind doesn't constantly feel unsettled cause the body reacts to the thinking. Get this method going and you'll feel something lift off as you invite new insights. Our bodies can work like fast clocks. Practice some of those simple things, one day at a time.

If it doesn't work. Stop giving stress room to rule your life. Give your body some rest too, it needs it!

I watch a lot of Netflix on my cell phone in bed at night. I bought some of the Blue Light blocker glasses from Sleep Spec. They seem to help a lot.

It is proven clinical fact that sex helps you sleep. Even masturbation.
So buy a vid and wank yourself to sleep. Top tip.

Oh and one more thing. Enjoy peeing, have a food feel pee don't hold in it for long. It's just a wonderful thing to embrace the feel of peeing...;)))

Pull that machine gun out and go 'aaaahhhhh'!
