After the last few days I've changed my mind about this, and have to say no.
Remember that no township anywhere was in lockdown, there was no social distancing, and most township peeps were home, and yet we are sitting at below 80 deaths, with what constitutes as some of the highest rates of HIV and TB in the world?

First of all, remember that we haven't even tested 200,000 people in SA.

Look at the top 5 infected countries the amount of deaths and infected. These are the countries which took the lockdown as a joke.

Specifically the US. They are still gathering to protest the lockdown, and as a result, the states in which they are protesting are seeing rises in infection.

Finaly, I'd like to leave you with a thought. And mind you I'm not trying to come off as a better then most person. I too complain about being locked down and have been decensitized by all the shit that happens in the world on a regular basis. But still, here's a question for you all:

WOULD YOU SUFFER A FEW MONTHS TO SAVE A LIFE?

Before you answer selfishly, remember that this life could be anybody. A stranger a fellow citizen, a neighbor, a friend, even a family member. We don't know the difference the lockdown has made. Perhaps, this month of JUST having to struggle a bit (no physical suffering) could have already factored into saving that life.

Problem is, I think, we have just pushed our curve to the right, i.e. later, not flatter.
Our shit is coming, just 5 weeks later. And to have the curve later, it have cost us up to 10% of GDP (and counting with every delay towards. normalization).
I hear what you say about every precious life, but all we may have gained is 5 weeks at a tremendous economic cost.
In fact, I worry that historians will look back at this and say the lockdown was the final nail in the coffin which pushed SA over the fiscal cliff, into immense debt and poverty and eventually from a middle- to low income country.

Hope with my whole heart I am wrong.

Our best case scenario is 18 months a vaccine is developed.
