We all understand that the ladies are busy but certain of them never answer their phones - for days and weeks- it's just bad manners in my book

It may just be real bad luck in your case that every time you call they are busy!
or your number could have been added to a spam list or sorts.
I would say after a week if you still have no luck rather move on to another sweetheart.
