I grew up with the term used as reference to something or a place in the context of "daai plek is n hoer se handsak!".
The inference was that it is messy but if you search long enough you can find anything there.
I don't know anything about handbag content and don't need to find out, but how else do you define love?

Threads on falling in purple love abound with concensus on the No!
But then what is the term for how we feel towards each other (note plural)
I enjoy their company. Think of them when alone. Smile when I think of them, get a happy rush when I receive a wa, look forward to see again. Miss when not together, want to share news, feel protective when bad comments are made or bad things happen, worry when I don't get messages and want to help where and however I can and in general live a much better life with them in my life.

So I know that makes me a fool, but a happy fool.

What term then to use if not love?

Why not use the term Love? Love does not mean you want to run away with them and make them your wife.

We say we love our friends we say we love our pets, (not that I am calling a lady a pet) we say we love our favourite meal

Why is this different? especially if you have a lady or 2 or 3 who you see regularly, who you talk to regularly, who you share with and who shares their things with you, in fact who is your friend

We should never be afraid of using the term love, the world needs more love

Peoples opinions, believes, understanding, approach, etc of the word "love" is so different..

My own aunt own day..when I said goodbye to her and added I love you said... Do not use the word love so loosely..rather say "I appreciate you or care for you or I like you" ..

After a minute of thinking of how to phrase what I wanted to say I asked her..but does "love" not mean all those things?

Her answer was no..and she said let us not get into that now, we can talk about that again one day.. we never did.

But years and years later I understood that love does not nessesaraly mean all those things.. in a perfect world it should, but our world ain't perfect...we can love someone but not like them, you can respect someone but not love them.

But in principle I do believe that we are capable of loving many different things and many different people in different ways.

Dear Miss Red
When people ask questions the idea is for you to make it easier. Not more difficult ;) (wink)
I get your point.
But what then is the collective word for all those good feelings?

And to return the favour, let me make it difficult for you too. This term we are looking for; if that can include nuances of I lust after you it would be all the more appropriate

I personally think the Greeks descriptions of love is best.

English is poor in expressing the different forms of love
