In fact, going au naturel may have more pros than cons. Among other things, pubic hair acts as a form of protection, trapping dirt and debris, Rowen said. Shaving the protective layer may make the area more susceptible to bacterial contamination.

Some researchers speculate that micro-abrasions and tiny cuts from shaving may facilitate the spread of sexually transmitted infections, but no large studies have definitively made that connection.

I tend to agree, those razor pimples can be entry points for infections. I'd rather a trim by a machine rather than a razor. Number of ladies have pubic areas messed by shaving,...pimples, cuts, marks. Rather just trim.

Hair is meant not just to trap contaminants, but scent as well. Trapped urine, natural discharge, menstrual blood and sweat all become a buffet for bacteria. Washing does not remove everything. Disinfectant washes will mess up your natural flora, increasing your susceptibility to infection.
Razor bumps, rashes and cuts(especially) can, theoretically, increase your susceptibility to some stds just as pubic hair can increase your ability to pass on stds to others (via bacteria, viruses and fungi trapped in the hair.)
