Quick one, how is everyone feeling about the potential disruptions and protests over the next few days.

We've just got out of a company wide staff meeting, saying that tomorrow is a "normal" work day, but if protests happen near or at our offices then we need to work from home. We are in Cape Town and Sandton CBD and in an uMhalanga office park.

Seems like much ado about nothing.

You obviously forgot about 2021 riots and how mobs can be mobilized very quickly and cause major havoc.

This is a serious effort to get rid of undocumented foreigners, unfortunately South Africans can't resolve anything peacefully. Its going to get ugly.

SAPS are not capable of controling this, going to be 2021 again, if not worse.

March by March protest a complete waist of time. If the Goverment had maintained the security at our borders we would not even be having this conversation but the goverment decided it would be a great idea to make sure our borders are unsecure allowing anybody who wished to enter the country without documentation possible and the result of all of this is the problems we have today . Millions of undocumented foreign nationals .

I agree that the board control needs to be improved as well as home affairs to ensure that people get thier valid documents with needing to have to bribe officials.

But Government via the security cluster actually did a fantastic job yesterday protecting the vast majority of people and property. A few legal foreign owned and run businesses were attacked,but these were isolated.

@johnT you have give some credit to government, it not all bad.

I think the biggest positive was that it never escalated to another 2021. That said, I am still forced to work from home.

Hopefully government now focuses on the issues that led to the protests... my punting schedule can't survive another week of being under house arrest

Key incidents reported yesterday:

Johannesburg CBD: Protesters attempted to force foreign-owned shops to close, but police intervened and kept control through heavy deployment.

Hillbrow & Yeoville: Protesters threw bricks, damaged homes, and looted stores. In Hillbrow, three individuals allegedly opened fire on marchers and had their vehicle torched in retaliation.

Alexandra & Soweto: Violent protests and the looting of foreign-owned shops were reported, with at least one fatality recorded in Alexandra and several arrests made by police.

Germiston: Demonstrators targeted the homes of suspected foreign nationals, leading to evictions and police interventions.
