So I started reading newspapers when I was very young...
Started reading only the backpages to read about football.
As the years went by I read the main body and also the classified.

The classified section back then had lots of section from property, used cars sales, funeral notices, pet sales(cats and dogs),jobs and the adult entertainment section.
Later I realised what the adult entertainment section was about...it was split into 2 sections: escorts services and massage services.
Anyone who remembers going through this as a teenager or even calling the numbers advertised just to hear who answers then drop the call?

I love this topic!

Having grown up in a very decent home with an extremely fortunate upbringing, I would always read the whole paper front to back.

In my hormonal teenage phase I would fantasize about the naughty ads..

...little did I know that years later I will quit corporate and actually do it!

A fantasy come true indeed and many boxes ticked!

There are still some ladies that I know whom continue to advertise in the actual newspapers!

Wow Kourtney B..your story is an interesting one. Back then print was everything...a kind of all-in-one source of information.

I'm amazed when you say there are still ladies who advertise in newspapers. With cellphone and online offering not many people buy newspapers. Most thingd that were advertised in the classfieds are now sold via apps and Facebook marketplace.

Many moons ago i met a regular from the newspaper. Thought it was too good to be true. Until someone mentioned her on these pages. Once i took the plunge, was no turning back. She never used any online adverts.

Yes - those were the days.
Searching through the ads and coming upon one that says:

"For a good time, call Sophia. Tel: xxx-xxxx. Area: Hillbrow"
Those were not interesting

But then you see an advert that says:
"Step into a world of elegance and adventure.
Allow yourself to be captivated by a sophisticated, charming lady who knows how to make every moment unforgettable.
Whether you seek stimulating conversation, a dinner date, or a memorable evening, I offer genuine companionship tailored to your desires.

Discretion guaranteed.
Available for select engagements.

Call Sophia: xxx-xxx
Indulge in the company you deserve.
Area: Hillbrow"

The latter ad made everything in my body stand on end, and you would think about that ad for days.
Even buy the newspaper again tomorrow just to see if she's still advertising.

It was interesting, no pics, no reviews, just the words in the ad to capture your imagination.

Started working in mid-90s. Almost everyday, i would read the sexy classifieds and dream about booking a session.
But i was so broke. My net salary after deductions was R2400. My mortgage for my 2bed townhouse was R1800. That left me with R600 pm to get to work and eat. FH for an hour was like R150. But i just did not have that.

Also did the news paper thing.
Phoned the lady or venue, made the appointment not knowing what to expect.
Many times made an excuse and ducked if the lady was not pleasing to the eye.
The whole process was exciting, met some lovely ladies and fellow punters.
All the venues were advertised in the enter section.
Lots of strip venues, houses with ladies with lounges to socialize, drink, braai etc before booking the lady,
Lots of strip joints, with bars in Hillbrow and downtown Jhb.
Remember the double mirror in the Romance night club were i would indulge watching the ladies change before dancing unknown to them and all,had to be connected to the owner to frequent this room, this was
fun.
This all came about from the classifieds.
