And I really hope for humanity's sake that world leaders make more good decisions than bad ones. But given all the variables at play it would be unrealistic (of me) to expect them to make perfect decisions all the time.

It's a complicated situation, there's no precedent to base the practical applicsyions on. And you are right to say it's not realistic to expect every leader to make the right call.
We've seen strict and extremely lax action taken in different countries. We can't even decide who is right and who is wrong based on numbers because unfortunately the public information is flawed, for two reasons, because there aren't enough test kits to test the entire world population (also some countries have many more test kits at hand), and the virus affets people from a very minimal manner to a fatal manner.
So best we can do is hope that the country leaders are making the right decisions as you said and that they have a strong plan as to how they will mitigate the side effects the lockdown had on the citizens, businesses and the economy.
When I see how much stricter the law enforcement had to get to enforce lockdown regulations had to get in Europe and Asia, I tend to lean towards the impression that SA is actually doing very well.

I do get they're non essentials but I'm saying fake nails are available for purchase. I thought reasons for not allowing certain stuff to be sold was so people reduce ups and downs.
