Thursday is still a full and proper work day, Friday would always be better ... well for me personally.

A Friday does sound good for a social, and it will be a welcoming change, but think there is a lot of punters that is not able to make it on a Friday, and that is normally why it is on a Thursday.
@Peterb, maybe worth the try for a Friday and see how everyone feels?

Also think a Friday is more difficult for some punters for numerous reasons.
