There absolutely nothing wrong in doing it.

My question is why do the South Africans not also hold their goverment accountable and say they should deal with Corruption, GBV, murder, gang voilence, etc.

Why do these South Africans think that they have the right to intimidate and physical harm foreigners, because the SA Goverment is not doing anything about illegal immigrants.

Do two wrongs make a right. NO it does not.

So the problem is with Goverment, then deal with Goverment, not with immigrants, as it will not solve the problem. Don't vote the same goverment into power again. Vote for MKP and let them steal even more from the taxpayers money ment for service delivery than current bunch.

Those leaving today will be back in a month or two when the dust have settled.

The problem will remain because Goverment is to busy enriching themself than to worry about illegal immigrants.

The people with this grievance have tried to reason with the government for well over a decade. If you look into it, you'll find that there's already a strong correlation between the government's decline in support and this particular issue.

Everytime people were willing to talk, they were called names for asking for intervention, that or whatever interventions were implemented were just tiny pacifiers to buy time.

Government has a lot to account to for this issue and other issues but there are so many interests outside of this that keep them alive. They still garner votes because of rose-coloured spectacles, because people fear alternatives and also simply because there are some people who actually benefit from their rule.

The pot is boiling over, some opposition politicians and other orgs are leveraging this anger for their own benefit of course. But they are leveraging an opportunity that the government has left open because they aren't listening, aren't governing well and keep being given a lifeline by people who have other interests.

To quote YOU first RobertLoblaw

"This is such a clusterfuck of a situation/topic and it's an all-round lack of empathy that will ensure it does not get solved.

On one hand, its fucked that there are people who have ticked all the right boxes, got all the papers, are respecting all the laws and genuinely here to add value. Protestors will not have the nuance or means to distinguish them from those who they say they are protesting against. There is not enough empathy for these people who will be affected.

On the other hand, this was always coming. Illegal immigration is still a crime. And in a society that cannot cater for its own, where people CANNOT find jobs despite trying for YEARS and where the government does not give a fuck to meaningfully address either the shortage of general opportunity or the sense that the opportunity is being "shared" with people who get to operate under a different less stringent set of rules, this was always going to happen. There is also not enough empathy for these very real grievances either.

Instead, attempts to label and shame them has just emboldened people to take things into their own hands.

Shame won't fix this. Only genuine empathy will.

No one across this entire spectrum is crazy. They just have to live with a different oppositional set of circumstances and the unaffected people who have the power to solve it don't care to."

And

"Does South Africa have problems without illegal migrants? Of course it does. The government is still shit. Crime is still rampant. Unemployment is still fucked.

But the resources required to deal with the above local issues are stretched by ALSO having to deal with issues from migrants.

In a wholly abundant society, there'd be a lot less noise about it. That's also why you hear more complaints from those who are already struggling and hear shaming from those who can afford to distance themselves from it.

Issues brought over by illegal migrants are not all of the issues that South Africa has but they are a subset of issue that we wouldn't have to deal with if we had a better handle on migration.

Anyone that thinks that locals are hallucinating is probably insulated from the issue."

And now me....

The generalization is what has led to the xenophobia.

I lay the blame FULLY at the doorstep of a failed corrupt government who has molly coddled the locals, brought up in an environment of entitlement ,segregation and hatred .
Mediocrity is too good for the locals.
Younglings allowed to drink , smoke be disruptive in an educational setting ,make babies and then get a condoned pass in grade 12 at the age of 22...?
Absent parents, the burden of economic failure.

And when one talks about the porous borders where the good and bad come through, where a blind eye is turned toward the criminal faction, in fact to lie in bed with the criminal ring leaders, government officials to set up time wasting tax payers money, commission after commission with no results, killing off the whistle blowers.

No
No.

The worst criminal is the one SA has voted into power, the one that allows the SA citizen to get away with laziness , mediocrity and be part of the same crime blamed on foreigners.

No
No

SA , YOU asked for this . YOU allowed it to happen under your watch.

And now YOU say the good people , the ones that kept the economy going, are to blame for YOUR laziness and absurd notion of entitlement.

I feel sorry for the legal hardworking foreigners who have been lumped in with the criminals.

Even worse.

The BEST of the foreigners will leave while the criminal faction shall remain. Very typical of a corrupt government.

What a fucking joke.

Damn.

U cant see further than your ego.

You saying the same thing I posted before u did....without refinement

Seems you only prone to selective reading and interpretation.

EDUCATION will lead to a less segregated and divided society. I stand firmly on this point.

As to bruised egos...there ain't no school to fix that except to ask the question why one feels singled out and attacked?

Especially if not even addressed.

Russian Bridgitte, I'd shut up right about now if I were you. You are talking from your own, very narrow minded, perspective as a white woman.

Have you ever wondered to yourself why black people generally experience more issues than other communities? IT IS CALLED SYSTEMIC RACISM you dumb mother fucker. It's too complicated for your pea sized brain to comprehend, so I will not bother trying to explain it. You are the very definition of a KAREN.

What's funny RB, is that I consider YOUR opinion to be 80% there but missing a huge nuance. And I'm not interested in personal insults or derailing here, I will disengage if this devolves to that.

What I agree with is that the government is at the centre of fault and that their continued access to power is at the heart of the issue.

What I disagree with is that there's a large black mass that continues to act against its own interest. That's the nuance you're missing.

There is no black mass, no privileged anything. There are individuals with their own motivations that make voting decisions for a host of reasons outside of the migration matter. So far, those other matters have been enough to keep the government in power. What we are seeing are the subset who agree about migration banding together to make noise about their issue.

I also disagree that migrants are all wholesome and good and have all kept the economy going. That's not accurate. Not wholly inaccurate either but there's nuance missing too.

For example. The view that drug running is fuelled by migrants was always labeled as xenophobic but it's now known, for a fact, that the biggest drug lords in 6 of 9 provinces in South Africa are not South African. (sundayworld.co.za/news/names-of-sa-drug-lords-revealed/)

For a long time this particular issue was seen as a xenophobic hallucination.

Another was the infiltration of tuck shops by migrants. Locals were labelled as lazy and xenophobic because they couldn't compete. It turned out that the infiltration was, in large part, an organised infiltration for terrorist financing purposes (www.fic.gov.za/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/2022.03-NRA-2022-Terrorist-Financing-National-Risk-Asssessment.pdf) and was a huge reason for South Africa's greylisting for inadequate money flow monitoring and controls.

The government definitely is at the centre of the problem but until this issue creates the fear that they'll lose power over it, and that it has enough momentum to outweigh whatever other interests keep them in power, they won't do anything about it. And the evidence of that is the little they have done about it all this time when people were still willing to talk about it.

In the South Africa I live in, I have seen citizens protesting and seeking answers from the government on all the agendas you have stated above and what does the government do...they just give the citizens a lip service, promises after promises. Maybe if you had familiarised yourself with communities which are affected by all the crimes you have stated above and not rely on the captured media for information then you'd know there have been protests concerning these issues but as usual the government blue ticks the citizens.

We can't ignore the issue of illegal immigrantion which also contributes to a huge part of crime. As far as I have seen the protests going on nobody has been physically harmed as a result. People who are against the marches are the ones spreading this false information and the captured media is doing the same. Can we be factual here and not talk on hearsay...

I don't even know why do I keep on explaining the obvious. Illegal immigrantion is a crime and can undocumented foreigners do the needful please. When they commit crimes they can't even be traced, spaza shops are selling poison to our kids and we must wait for the government that has done nothing thus far. Anything to get the government's attention and force their hand into acting , I stand with. It's enough now...

She, and a lot of others in this thread, are speaking from ivory towers. They read some online forums and comments and think they have it figured out when all they have is a perspective.

No true South African can applaud to this. South Africans can't be silenced in the name of " everyone commits crime, it's not only foreigners who do".

Yes. And I hope I don't regret trying to engage you in earnest after watching that other discussion derail into a personal back-and-forth.

Anyway, I learnt decades ago that the black voting population is not a single unified bloc. Voting motivations are multidimensional. In the black population, you have people who have issues with migration-related issues on one end of a singular dimension with Pan-Africanists at the other. You get socialists opposed by capitalists. Pro-black opposed by those who still believe in multiracialism. Poor. Rich. Educated. Uneducated. The dimensions are numerous.

What it means RB, is that the stance you're taking that there's the mass black voting bloc shoots itself in the foot misses the nuance that the very people protesting the current issues are, by actual tally of votes, very likely not the same people who keep voting for this government.

The majority of voting age people and, for the first time since 1994, actual voting participants, did not in majority vote for the current government. That's a fact.
