I agree, but I don't really believe in religion. Don't mind it for the most part as long as you don't try and push me to your beliefs on me. Which is what a lot of Muslims do...

No Muslim has ever tried to push their beliefs onto me, that's what most Christians do.
The honourable deed of zakaat/donation/charity should not be restrictive in nature and should be done with an open mind by anyone who is willing to help a person in need.
I am not too keen on learning too deeply about the religion. Lunch, yes we can meet, I will be happy to break bread together.

Yeah, the muslim community in SA is chill, mostly everyone gets along with everyone. But in parts of Europe there are muslim only enclaves, parallel sharia courts, efforts made to ban dogs in public places, prayers on the main streets as a show of power etc.
I don't really have a problem with zakat by itself, charity begins at home, you start with your family then your immediate community and then your broader community. From a practical point of view it makes sense to be charitable towards your own community and people who share your values. The issue is when they hold non-muslims to a standard which they themselves do not abide by. Also all noble religions such as Christianity, Buddhism etc. do not limit charity to only adherents, its usually extended to all of humanity.

In Islam, Zakat is an act of worship and one of the Five Pillars of Islam, alongside:
Shahada
Salat
Zakat
Sawm
Hajj
Because Zakat is a religious obligation, it only applies to Muslims who meet certain conditions, such as:
Being Muslim
Being financially able (having wealth above the nisab threshold)
Owning that wealth for one lunar year)

Incidentally the charity given to non Muslims by Muslims is termed as Sadakah
