Being frugal with money will become a challenge even for the most financially savy and considering there is no true middle class, one has to ask oneself what will happen to those living on the breadline?

I have also gone solar route.
System works well.

I don't see how they will resolve the power crisis, and it's going on for way to long now.
Too many municipality have large debts with Eskom, and they don't recover money from them. Too many people stealing electricity on daily basis and this keep driving our tariff up.
Now eskom is also losing paying clients to solar, so there recoveries will be less and less.
It's an uphill battle for Eskom to provide and not generate sufficient funds for their running cost which includes the huge debts they have, and to still have sufficient for the fat cats to keep eating.

That is why I have hung up my punting boots for this year ... kids enrolled in a new private school next year ... and starting to put contingency plans in place for a quick departure if need be so focusing my funds and attention on priorities.

That's quite a good way to manage your life. Surprising more people don't think like that. Most are caught up in short term or immediate gratification.

I cannot see Eskom recovering soon. There is one major problem, and it is the staff that they have : Incompetent, overpaid, and cadre deployment. I haven't seen any staff reductions at Eskom while I believe they are bloated.

Before they give Andre the green light to let everyone apply again for their jobs to weed out the shit, no ways they will recover.

Apart from the graft that took place and which I am sure is still continuing, all the monies spent on building new power stations were wasted on kickbacks now the structural problems are coming to the fore, Kusile as a prime example.

So solar is the way. And a different way of life to adjust to the solar system to optimise it.

Eskom is just going to get worse.
