Net income of R17k per month. Averaging around R6k on punting every month. Not many financial obligations on my plate

Damn dude. How do you survive on R11k a month?

Seriously? I genuinely want to know because I can't understand it. I only managed that straight out of varsity live with my parents at first and that was decades ago when fuel was under R300 a large tank.

I mean if you live with your parents and have little financial obligations like mucklechaev then sure possible to survive. Even with a pass poor salary you can literally spend half your salary on punting.

I'm generally quite a frugal person. No mortgage/car instalments and debit orders amount to less than R1.5k pm. Helps to drive a small efficient diesel car - About 900km off a 52l tank.

Not staying at "home" but managing to avoid Rental and DSTV/Insurance. Plus I heavily negotiate rates with regulars who complain about this practice but oblige nonetheless.

I know it's your money, but perhaps reconsider spending R6K on punting. Maybe reconsider punting altogether.

6k is a good budget to spend on punting. You can leave a decent tip too

You have a lot of disposable income but you are spending 35% of your net income on punting. I'm not saying stop punting, but you could put half of that in a tax free savings account or equities for example. That's more than what a lot of people save that earns 5 times what you do, so you are in a fortunate position that you can create wealth for yourself. You'll thank yourself in 5 to 10 years from now.

I hear you but I'm not really worried about retirement at this stage of my life, still in early 20s. I save precisely to afford punting and my daughter's needs are provided for by her mother's family.

Why suffer, hope and pray for a long life to allow compound interest to kick when I could indulge right now? High inflation will erode my capital base anyway. We live once after all.

I wasn't talking about retirement, I said you'll thank yourself in 5 to 10 years, but scrap what I said because based on your previous post I think you should rather take care of your daughter instead of spending so much of your income on punting. Just because others are prepared to do it or they can provide better doesn't make it right that you leave everything to them. You'll regret it one day (or maybe you won't).

The average salary at Eskom is R737k but workers want more. Maybe so they can increase there punting budget
