If you discovered a great restaurant, you'd want to tell your friends so they could get a chance to experience it right?
You wouldn't avoid going out to eat at places you knew your friends sometimes visited, would you?
So if you think of it in those terms, then if the person is actually a friend, it shouldn't be awkward.
If it's a really close friend that you love, then the situation is obviously very different. In that scenario, you take each other out for dinner every now and then.
