But this is digressing from the original post , the post was to highlight there are children who won't be able to eat during this time , that's more important than land lords loosing money right now.

I sympathise with the tenants, but landlords don't really care for the laws that are in place to protect tenants. I don't think their behaviour will be any different this time around, but only time will tell.

Thats all well and good, but the landlord is still expected to pay electricity, water, municipal rates, levies and their bond. What about their children not getting food? Just because you are a landlord does not mean you are rolling in money. There is no free lunch, for someone not to pay - all you are doing is kicking the burden up the chain to someone else.

Think about a complex that has hundreds of units that do not pay rent for months. Levies cant be paid by owners and therefore all guards, cleaners and staff cannot be paid etc etc. It all just shifts the pain to someone else.

If it helps, just about every church in each area has some kind of feeding scheme. Donated food is given or sandwiches/soup that has been prepared. You dont have to be part of the congregation or necessarily a Christian to recieve.

Have personally made sandwiches and tea and given out (it was weekly).

@mike23 and tomlette, I'm sure when the country isn't facing an international disaster I would agree with you whole heartedly however if passed, landlords could end up facing jail time for ignoring direct measures to counteract literally thousands of people being thrown onto the streets. I'm guessing their thought process now , is if you can afford properties you're in a better situation than most in this country. The country can not face its work force being forced into homelessness.

NO one wins here! It is a loose loose situation all round. Banks won't be able to reposes your properties and they have lowered the interest rates, WHY should you be the only ones benefiting? The attitude astounds me! Maybe lower your rentals ? Perhaps if you've shown some grace , grace will be afforded you.
