Interesting question. I also tend to think it must be a lower percentage. Pretoria has about 400 girls on ESA. Not all advertise here - let's say there are a 1000 working girls in Pretoria. Make it 2000 if you want.

Surely they cannot serve 10%+ of Pretoria men? The number must be low - or am i thinking the wrong way about this?

I wouldn't assume anything concrete statistically regarding the percentage of all men in relation to this industry. But I would assume the number is quite high as most of us live off of this industry and if there are 1000 wgs for instance, each one would have to see a certain number of clients per day/week/month in order to sustain and justify working in the industry, obviously according to what they charge. Although middle income men are rapidly falling off the radar, there must still be a high number that have or are utilising the industry. Even if they only tried it once to appease curiosity, I think those numbers increase and lessen constantly! I do not think its consistent!

The way I was raised seeing a wg or mg was always so taboo. Then in my late 20's while taking a break after many failed relationships, I decided after much consideration to visit a wg. That experience changed my way of thought. In my relationships over the years I spent tens of thousands of rands spoiling my partner and if I was lucky I would get some action. Not only did I need to spend money but maintaining that relationship required me investing my time and my emotions. Even after giving your everything not all relationships work out or make u happy. I'm 31.. been doing this for 2 years now, met some really sweet ladies.. have had some amazing experiences and done stuff I would normally never do. Yes there have been some horrible experiences but like everything in life you learn. I know what kinda girl I look for now so I don't punt as often as I did when I started. It's quality over quantity now. Yes I've got some favorites and there's a few ladies especially in Jhb that have caught my eye and I hope to meet them soon.

Have punted, or do? I'd imagine a large proportion of men have paid for sex at some point in their lives. I think only a minority do so on a regular and ongoing basis.

Fred8, I don't think too much of my observations . It could be that the nature of our businesses is what draws me to them and that is coincidence. I am a small fish in a big pond. So my view is hardly conclusive.
Here's another interestwung occurrence. Doesn't matter where I eat/shop etc I always bump into a client but I also bump into hundreds of non-clients. Or are they just non-clients to me? And that puts it more into perspective. Out of maybe 500 shoppers , in a mall, I spot maybe 1 or 2.
Take breakfast yesterday. About 60-100 people there in the time I was there, 1 client there. At the fleamarket hundreds of people but didn't cross paths with a single client.
Do I remember all rgew guys who've been to me? No. Do these guys perhaps visit othe Wgs? Yes, maybe. Fid I perhaps not notice the vlients that were there? probably. So you can see the flaws in how i draw conclusions re numbers of punters.
Yes, the higher income guys make up a significant percentage of my clientele. But the medium income guys are just as significant. He might just have to put away litte amounts over a week or 2 and plan more carefully.
I gravitate towards Oupajack and Ghostwrita's view.

I would say its 80% can be accurate if you restrict it to a particular demographic;

80% of men will probably pun if;

Their moral and ethical compass allows them to (no judging here, some men's conscience and values simply won't allow them to punt)

They have sufficient funds to allow them to (maybe it's that once off windfall that allows a once off tryst with a lady of the night)

They reside in an area where the is a sufficient population density (I would say that more punting occurs in Fourways or Milnerton than in Pofadder, Sutherland and Putsonderwater combined)

They have a lifestyle that allows them to disappear from time to time (disappear from relatives, neighbours, colleagues and so on)

I think that most, not all but most, men meeting the above will at least try punting once.

I think that the percentage is a lot higher than most people admit. There are loads of closet punters that would never admit to it.

geowing up i recall most pf my friends and guys our age punting.... we obviously wouldnt admit it now that we have families but i thnk its alot more than 5%.

if you were to look at men aged 18 to 40 with available excess income i suspect the % would be over 20%

The most ambiguous question ever posted on esa. If one did a survey and included every eligible male in SA, the percentage would be 0.1 %. So your answer would vary dramatically based on what portion of population the survey was based on.
