Agreed that the "No cooked food sold" rule doesn't make any sense.

The process of cooking essentially kills bacterias and viruses. We already know the Coronavirus doesn't handle high temperatures well.

Now do they allow salads to be sold since they are generally uncooked? That'd be a risk. Some rules are too arbitrary, just like the ban on wine exports, since most likely a contaminated box of wine would not have any virus alive on it by the time it reaches its port of destination.

The only reason I can think of for any of these rules would be to keep people from working, or keeping the lowest possible man-power for all businesses.

They differentiate between cold and cooked chicken, one is allowed the other not. Weird.

No cooked food became "law" yesterday morning after some threatened to sue the government for not allowing it, because in the orginal regulations there was no specification as to what type if food was allowed. So I think they wanted to prove a point. Childish and stupid if that is the case.

Also, when they first allowed wine exports, one reason they gave was that "we now know that covid 19 does not survive journeys by sea". Then the u-turn. Weird.

As for the transport from the wine farms to the ports, one rumour has it that the reason was that the government is scared the trucks will get robbed. Also weird. Since we have thousands of security companies who can sort that out.

I think many people would be a lot more lenient to some of these absurd rules, if the goverment also added an explanantion as to why they are done when they give them. Simply saying "there will be no walking of dogs" and that is the end of it, is a slap in the face of the public and an attempt at a power show.

'The best thing SA has done was ban the sale of alcohol, I don't think people understand how much of a strain alcohol related cases puts on the healthcare systems.'

So by your logic the should ban all be vehicles from South African roads?

You are clearly disconnected from the goings on in South Africa. If you have spent time in any of the government hospitals over a weekend you would know that majority of the admissions are related to alcohol. Can you imagine the impact on the hospitals if you had lockdown with alcohol. Add the anticipated caseload for Coronavirus victims and it would be a disaster. Use your brains for a minute before you pen stupid responses. From your posts you would be the first saying how you 'heard' from somewhere how government failed to cater for such scenarios.

'Government hospitals over a weekend' so boozing is a weekend thing. My ex was a nursing sister so am aware of the goings on at a@e at Addington Hospital. Alcohol does make people do stupid things, especially youngsters, but ban them from driving and buying alcohol, don't punish everyone because you have an outside agenda. Is there any first world country that has banned the sale of alcohol that you know of?

Base on all the information available the First world countries, those that do allow the sale of alcohol, are also the countries with the highest number of deaths related to COVID.

And if memory serves my correctly you are a numbers guy Tegsie. Think on this same thread you were "teaching" me how important numbers are, and that the world "revolves" around numbers.

@Tegwane you are calling people who drink "Alcohol Haters". That in itself makes no sense.

You are speaking of two beers a week end, that's 8 beers a month. If that's your consumpltion, you are easily able to survive with a 24 or 48 beer crate which is also more then affordable. If you can't afford it, then you have no business buying beer because you most likely should buying food with that money.

You speak of freedom of choice, what makes you think your freedom of choice is worth the safety of your fellow humans? Are you so conceited you believe you know better then a plethora of government officials who have eyes on more information then you do?

You are trying to show you are an erudite but just come accross as a un-informed, un-educated wannabe scholar who's only here to inflame a situation and start nonsensical arguments base on little to no facts.

Did you not know that Tegsie and his friends know it all. If google can't find the answer they phone Tegsie and his friends to get it.

What I was querying is why the ban is being implemented if it is not being done elsewhere?

I think it is a stupid notion not allowing cooked food to be sold. What about doctors, nurses ect that work long shifts.. now they still have to go home and cook?

The reason why "Cooked" food is not allowed to be soled is, that Fast Food "Franchises" would be allowed to open their doors for business. As you can cook your own food, therefor fast food is not seen as an essential. The cost of preparing your own meal are also a lot cheaper than the equivalent fast food meal.

Ask Tegsie to explain to to you, it is all in the numbers

Not at all. The one is not related to the other. I am just sick and tired of the "first world" argument. They maybe more advance is certain areas, but that does not mean we have to follow their example.

It comes back to the age old saying of: "If you walk through fire, it does not mean I have to follow suite"

Every death is one to many, and every death add to the strain on Medical services.
