I arrive at Roodepoort magistrates Court. 30 minutes early. I am neatly dressed in a short black skirt, white collar shirt, small short sleeve black jacket and black heels. Hair, nails, makeup done to perfection.

My file for the lawyer with me. Perfectly organized. I spent many days and nights preparing his materials. Sometimes working till 4am.

I am NOT the accused. I am merely assisting with the defense.

At 12:30 pm I am informed that the lawyer didn't come to court. He has been sick since Monday apparently. No one thought to let me know.

Who compensates me for my time and fuel?

It irks me. The audacity!!! Uneducated individuals!

Now I need a de stress session .

Been there, done that. So, sit the whole day, 2pm case postponed, lawyer left.

Next time u go to roodepoort courts let me know we can get freaker in the court room plz.

They do this so often - so much so that witnesses etc cant take any more time off (or refuse to do so out of frustration).

Cases then get thrown out of court, citing lack of evidence and the criminal walks free.

The legal system is but a joke but certainly no funny one.....

If you're appearing for the defence, the lawyer / accused are liable.
It happened to me, I invoiced the lawyer and he paid.
The second time, the lawyer ignored my invoice but he got the message loud and clear that he fell under the "shark" label.

It is no laughing matter!!! I honestly do not know how we are supposed to function in this dysfunctional society!

I definitely would love to add that to the consultation fee. However not only the lawyers are to blame. In this particular case it is clear that the complainant is on a vendetta. The investigating officers are dragging their feet. The accused is most definitely innocent. (I processed the evidence) The case should never even have gone to court. The magistrate, prosecutor and head prosecutor should just throw it in the BIN!
