Hi there peeps.
I know this isn't the forum, but my brother's regular iT guys are on leave and the guys holding the fort are in fact...not holding anything.
This is his question:

"I use OneDrive on my MS laptop and one my iPad. However, when I try to open a file on the OneDrive/Word app on iPad, it opens as a Read only file. This is particularly true of .docx files-may be all files but I mainly use .docx files In order to edit the file I am to make a copy and save it again, ending with multiple versions of the same file. Can you help me? PLEASE?"

Install the Microsoft Word app as well. When you open the file in OneDrive one of the options is to open it in Word. If you don't have Word installed, your file is opened with a viewer that is part of the OneDrive app.
