Hey sexy brain!
I was bored, read responses, realised that my eye roll had an effect...[/QUOTE]

Ha ha ha. Wouldn't mind making those lovely eyes roll actually. One day.

Silence fills the continent...

The doomers fade to the backround

Rejoicing in the hope of better days, lower stages

Blaming game too a throw
Egos, fears and ignorance

Tik.... Tok... On your way to the grave...

Life could be amazing...all about attitude

You are totally entitled to be optimistic. In this case, the glass is half full - at best. Ignore a 10-15 year downward trend in most SA economic indicators at your own peril.

Why are you telling me something I know?

So you know all these negatives - yet remains optimistic. That is all wonderful. But intellectually quite contradictory - if you are as smart as you seem to think you are.

Something to consider that happened in the last month.
Historically, from around the 16th December every year to the middle of January, electricity demand is lowest the whole year due to businesses closing for the festive season and so on, meaning either no loadshedding or very little ( stage 1 or 2 )
This past festive season, we had various stages from 2 to 6 during the 'lowest demand period', caused by more frequent breakdowns and the surplus electricity supply being so narrow. If the emergency reserves were depleated ( which has happened before ) we would have had stage 8 or higher.

The past month was very worrying to see, and looking at the daily demand and avaliable capacity currently and going forward, it's time to take off the rose tinted glasses and look again, as the winter season is fast approaching. I don't hear Eskom announcing new generation units to be connected within the next 2 to 4 months either.

I'm no 'prophet of doom' but seeing the daily supply, demand and breakdowns that occur, the day stage 8 or higher is announced, I will not be suprised at all.

Just received this now... Not sure what to make of it.

POWER ALERT 1 Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 05:00 - 16:00 on Tuesday, followed by Stage 5 loadshedding at 16:00 -- 05:00 on Wednesday. Monday, 16 January 2023: Over the course of this week 14 generators are expected to return to service, helping to ease the pressure on the power system. Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 05:00 - 16:00 daily from Tuesday morning, with Stage 5 loadshedding daily from 16:00 - 05:00. Eskom cautions the public, however, that there is a high degree of uncertainty associated with this and that these changes will only be possible in their entirety if the units return to service as planned. Changes in the stages of loadshedding can therefore occur at short notice, due to the inherent unreliability of the coal power station fleet. A further update will be published as soon as any significant changes occur. Eskom procured an additional 50 million litres of diesel on 06 January 2023. This fuel will be utilised sparingly to manage the pumped storage dam levels and to limit the amount of loadshedding during the day. Together, these emergency generators contribute 5 700MW of capacity. A generating unit each at Kendal, Majuba and Tutuka power stations have returned to service today. The summer planned maintenance programme continues, and will taper off during the winter months, helping to make more capacity available to produce electricity. There are currently 12 generators out on planned maintenance, representing 5 804MW of capacity. Breakdowns currently amount to 16 173MW of generating capacity. ENDS

It happens often and is a direct result of load shedding that has stuffed up the back up power to the towers.

This is all a facade we are just burning through oil now.
Will last a few days. Unless treasury decides to bankroll billions of Rands of oil.
