To the punters, has anyone ever dealt with this in real life not this mickey mouse nonsense they try here on ESA

I'm talking about guys showing up at your place of business and demanding a ''protection fee'' or else bad things may happen to you.

How did you deal with this or whats the best way to deal with it.

As a disclaimer said business is legal too.

I reckon a warning for a shakedown gives you time to plan a takedown.

Now you know they're coming. Start preparing. Speak to the other businesses in the area and find out what all happens and when. Maybe there's a set time like every Fridays they collect and if someone didn't pay, what happened.

Easy/logical route is get all the info you can and take it to the cops. Arrange for an emergency assist when you notify them if you've got good cops in the area so they can be waiting to react.

Other option is meet up with your local neighbourhood CPF and get them involved. They get bored with the routine patrols and probably have more availability since they're not dealing with the SAPS volume of crime or doing it just for the paycheck. Also many of them wanna test out theirnew gear and range skills so they may be up for setting up "something".

Paying just means you're forever going to be paying and once you start the price goes up and up.

Good luck.

I'm not going to explain to you detail so here's a long story shortened...

Scream into a pillow as loud as you can. Keep doing this until your voice really thickness up.

The next time you address them speak from the chest.

You might think I'm joking but I assure you that they won't mess with you ever again.

Fukkit mahn, let me just explain a little more by asking you this...

What happens when you show a dog fear?

Yes, exactly.

You should be the one striking fear in their hearts. They should be seeking your protection.

They WILL flee with their tails between their legs.

You got this...

Understood.

Go to the police and lay a charge of intimidation & extortion. Make sure you record absolutely all communications and be sure to take it with you.

In most cases it is simply intimidation so if you persue it then they will get cold feet and move on. Generally it would be dangerous for them to do anything to you if their details are in a docket. Just be safe.

In most instances, people pay the fee, but depending on what the target is, the fee can be negotiated down. And the reason for this is because the ones I've been involved in have a political element and the guns for hire are usually very trigger happy and it comes at a nominal fee. Can't delve into too much detail.

Nowadays we even add this line item as a provision when budgeting because SAPS and the courts will have you waiting until you're blue in the face. I'm not saying it's not worth approaching them, but the delays are just a pain.

P.S. There are other alternatives, but you have to have the knack for that kind of stuff because it can either eradicate your problem or make it worse.
