The government imposed the lockdown and if you are not part of the essential services then you should be paid accordingly. there are ways that the employer can recoup costs of paying staff to be at home via the Temporary Employer and Employee Relief Scheme

The Covid-19 TERS Benefit is de-linked from the other UIF Benefits and other processes, however applications are subjected to normal verification and validation processes of the Fund".
