Well, Visual Basic is still the 5th or 6th most popular programming language (it fluctuates depending on demand). Before anyone chews my head off... I know that modern VB.NET is a framework based language and has very little in common with good ol' traditional BASIC... But, even Classic Visual Basic is still in the top 20 TIOBE Index - and that is definitely still a BASIC derived object-based programming language with visual extensions for event-driven programming and COM support tacked on.
