Interesting topic, very very interesting! Still waiting for the person to tell me who determines the price of bread? (and don't say the economy) as intelligentsia we know (again this my personal input) that I may charge less than a K or higher than 5k. Sasko, Albany, Homemade bread is all bread, it is those companies that determine what to charge and when, be it area or season (I stand corrected) but as the consumer you never involved when it comes to pricing but your influence is always taken into consideration due to the ever changing market
. My point is don't go buy Albany expecting an unknown brands rate yet expect woolies quality. xoxo

Hi Berry
Let me start by saying I'm all for you choosing your own price, but may I propose another analogy than bread please.
The price of bread is determined by the cost of the ingredients and the costs associated with making it as well as a modest profit. Actually the markup on everyday things like bread, milk, eggs, maize etc is rather modest as everybody needs it and are price aware. The yummy markups lie in things like avos exotic fruit and preprepared meals. That market does often not even know what those fancy things cost.

So if you use the bread analogy, the price will be more or less what the realistic venues ask as a room fee. Then add to that your hourly rate. R25,42 is minimum wage at this stage. But the good ladies are not unskilled labour so their rates should be much higher.

All that aside, I'd rather suggest you say who determines the price of a Rembrandt or Madona's used pillow case. The value there is purely subjective based on the buyers value perception.

However, now you get the super skilled and God blessed beauties, where neither input costs nor value perceptions can be used to determine the price. Why? Because they are indeed Picasso value, but they also know how many Picasso's sell annually.

So the cold reality is that the price is, unfortunately determined by finding your own personal balance between what you judge your value to be and what you can convince the audience to pay.
We have an abundance of ladies (typically entitled youths without skills) that charge more than their value and on the other hand the superstars (where age and stereotype definitions of beauty becomes of minimal consideration), where what they charge is way way below the value of the experience they provide, but who charge the way they do to keep the meter ticking.

I am on my knees thanking those gems, because they make it possible for me to spend (almost) within my means and still get such value that I do not experience buyers remorse after.
