Firstly, France is a country, Islam is a religion. You are also conflating French colonisation with Christian colonization, the European colonization era was all about expanding territory and extracting resources from colonized nations and not really about spreading Christianity although that was done too. There is no jihad in Christianity, there is no hijra in Christianity, Islam is the only religion that encourages violence against non-adherents.
While we are on the topic of colonization, its funny that you did not mention the arabmuslim colonization era which was the most brutal and prolonged colonization period. Islam was spread by the sword and that is a fact, it is decreed in islam that when muslims colonize a country they should give the natives a choice to either convert, leave or die. The crusades were a defensive reaction to thwart the colonization of Europe by the Muslims. No Islamic invasion of Europe then no crusade.
