I saw a fun trend on social media of people dressing up as different quarantine characters.
There was the gym bunny. Every day in lockdown is full body workout, smoothies, protein shakes and clean eating. Every workout inventive, creative and hardcore as possible.
The Homeless. How long have you been wearing those sweats? Your beard has crumbs from your last meal that you're saving for later. You're social distancing from your shower.
The DIY. You've got it all. The list, the tools, the flannel shirt. Every wall that needed painted, hole that needed filling (wink wink) it's all going to get done.
The Coma. Sleep, Netflix, repeat.
Karma Sutra. Experiment, rest, repeat. Who needs clothes? Plenty of oil.
Teacher. You get to help your delightful offspring with their schoolwork. When did homework online become a thing? Your child has to explain how the app works before you can actually help with the homework. You mentally put 'vodka, flowers and chocolates'on the shopping list to gift the teacher at the next parent teacher conference. You wonder if your child is a genius, then an evil genius, then give them detention indefinitely while you lock yourself away in the bathroom and recuperate.
Baker. You bake bread. Who needs Albany? You have so much bread you consider trading with the Amish for one of their fancy hats.
Moonshine. You drank it all, tried making it, think you can have fun without a drink. Slap yourself in the face for even thinking you can have fun without a drink.
Essential Worker. Mask, gloves, sanitisation. You feel like you're in the Walking Dead as you see how empty everywhere is. You start working on your new identity in your mind. Trench coat, leather, maybe a beard?
Expecting. You're not expecting a baby, but after you have raiding the kitchen every hour for the last month, you look like you're about to have triplets. You caress your belly with one hand and munch on a cupcake with the other.
Glow Up. You did it all. You gave yourself a schedule. You exercised, you drank water, your house has never looked more organised. Heck, life is great.
You tried. You wanted to do all the things, you didnt. And that's okay.
So ladies and fellas, which character above fits your quarantine experience? What character did I leave out? What did you learn, what did you realise and how has this whole situation changed your outlook?
