I love "Old school values"

But this is such a broad topic.

We need to look at the different generations, the time frames of the generations and the periods of time that that they were growing up in? Read up on the philosophers and their different theories.
We have evolved in such a short space of time lately compared to generations before us?

Where do we start?

I personally have a family group that expands from the

GI Generation
Traditionalists
Baby Boomers
Gen X
Gen Y or Millennials
to
Gen Z, I Gen or Centennials

All of us have our own sense being according to the time we were born and growing up. We all have a sense of purpose and direction at the time in an ever changing world. How do we question this and every generations reactions or responses to the times they find themselves living in? Time's have changed. So have Lifestyles and the Roles we play in those Lifestyles, Technology, Education, Social Media, IQ, EQ, AI?

Each generation has been faced with adapting and a never ending series of challenges, being it plagues, war, socio economic differences, racial segregation or integration. Famine. Drought. Politics. Religion.

But for now we are supposed to be in Isolation!

Hopefully we will all come out of this being a little more humble, grateful, accepting, compassionate, forgiving and understanding. And empathetic!

I am going to carry on reading and learning about Dharma and the different philosopher's. I "Kant" believe the times we are living in?

"I think, therefore I am"???

Yeah woke culture is terrible. This new thing of historically marginalized and ill-treated groups finally standing up fpr themselves is terrible.

That they can band together on social media (without traditional media filtering their voices) and expose the shit thats been happening to them for years like casual racism and police shootings is such a waste.

Its so shit that and old white male can't harass his secretary anymore without worrying about being metoo'd.

And it REALLY sucks that we can't say mildly racist jokes any more... those pesky people of colour really don't take jokes made at their own expense quite the same any more... everyone is so soft.

You know what I really hate... how the plight of the poor is being highlighted. How they are making it seem like sometimes being poor and born into a poor uneducated family isnt their fault and making it seem like me getting to where I am had something to do with some of the advantages I had (which clearly it didn't) and they should just work hard and they'll be rich too. I mean nothing is holding them back right

Being held accountable for the things I say, is really quiet shit. Miss the good ol' days when being privileged was a quiet thing you just enjoyed, now people keep pointing out my advantages... its so unfair.

An awesome defining post on wokeness, well done Greatd a perfect illustration

GreatD generally the dislike of woke culture is not actually about the things that you mentioned.

It's more about people playing the victim and wanting to take zero responsibility for where they are.

That wrong and right are decided on feelings and not on actual facts.

That the world is black and white. If you don't agree with everything they say you should then you are evil.

That the only reason for success is someone's privilege and any hard work they did or sacrifices made had nothing to do with it.

That they believe you are evil or good based on race or gender. I.e if you are white or male then you must be wrong.

Look in everything there will always be aspects of something that are not ideal but overall (and this is my opinion) the good things brought by the shift in mindset of our younger generation is great. I remember I went to a model C high superschool in Westville back in the day and they had a rule that guys couldn't cut their hair bold. I mean WTF!?!? If your a black guy you understand how fucked up that is but we just grinned through it just to get by. But this generation is saying FUCk THAT and they are changing the bullshit of things that really left a scar for a lot of people. I understand why to you guys those type of things aren't important because its never affected you. That's why you can say insensitive shit like 'your soft, just get over it. We are all equal now'. But to people like me I'll always support someone standing up for the little guy... even though they may have faults of their own.

But just to give some of my own observations on some of the things you mentioned.

1. What I've seen is that a lot of people who are seen as 'playing the victim' are accused as such by people who don't understand circumstance. If you are born into a certain circumstance no amount of hard work (by itself) will help you... you need someone to take a chance on you and for some people it just doesn't happen (probably because of the mentality of 'your in this situation purely because of your decision')
2. Facts are facts. In societal matters, a fact has never really been wrong or right by itself. Its society that decides. In some society's taking someones life is deemed right in certain situations. At some point being gay was seen as wrong.

3. I agree that some people take the privilege debate to extremes but that's probably because most of the people I've chatted to about privilege point blank refuses to acknowledge theirs. That can be quite infuriating to say the least.
4. I'm also against generalized assumptions, but there are members of certain demographics that do things (say racist or sexist things, refuse to recognise their privilege, build laagers that only allow their kind in to positions to benefit) so often that people assume if you are part of that group you subscribe to that mentality. Its wrong but people have been doing it for generations its not new. Think all blacks are dirty and are criminals (the base od ROAR), all Jews have money and are stingy, all Asian people are nerds etc. It's just a new stereotype for people who aren't used to being subjected to that.

There is a grain of truth at the root of every stereotype.

Let's not pretend Indians don't love curry.

The problem with the privilege debate is where does it stop and how do measure it.

Should we penalize taller people. Studies show they earn more.

How about more attractive or people who have a higher intelligence.

All are a privilege.

I am very pro helping people who are less fortunate.

But I am not Ok being told I am evil or my opinion doesn't matter because of the color of my skin or my sex.

You say that it's people getting some of there own medicine. Ok but then I can call the people racist and sexist as fair is fair.

If people are as horrible as we keep being told we are. Then why did anything change.

My big worry is if you keep on judging people and telling people that they are evil, they may believe you and give up trying to be better.

I think we should more be focusing on people who need up and highlighting their needs. Then collectively trying to help.

You don't make the world better by saying a group is evil. You make it better by convincing people that they are capable of being great and helping them improve.

Unfortunately this is hard and takes a long time. It also requires you to point out the positives that people are doing and the small steps that can make them better tomorrow instead of every wrong.

If you tell a child they are evil and wrong, every time you interact with them. You aren't going to get a healthy adult. Why do you think adults work differently.

Woke culture forgets to understand the other side and love them knowing they are flawed but capable of being better.

But at the same time expects the opposite side to understand and love them.

You can't have two sets rules deciding which to apply based on some group identity. Either we are all worth love respect and understanding or none of us are.
