I get repeated unsolicited WhatsApp messages from young women contacting me for "love and support". It boils down to approaches for a sugardaddy / sugarbaby relationship with money involved. Initially I just blocked them, suspecting some kind of scam.

But the messages keep coming in. Yesterday I had one from a claimed young female student. Due to the number of messages I received, I decided to chat to her and try to determine the purpose and origin of these messages. After spending much of the day chatting to her, I actually do believe she is a student looking for a sugardaddy / sugarbaby arrangement. She revealed that she saw my post on Facebook and insisted on my photo before she would agree to anything. She does behave like she is a somewhat naive 22 year old.

I never posted anything like that on Facebook. My conclusion is that someone made a malicious post revealing my cell number inviting these approaches.

I had the suspicion that the origin was Facebook. But searching for my number yields nothing. Fortunately they all ask for my photo so that has not been posted.

Did anybody have a similar experience or can you advise on how to search for posts containing my cell number?

Dude. It is definitely a scam then and you should not have sent your photo. That is the start of the scam. They start building up their evidence to blackmail you with. You got multiple requests, too much of a coincidence.

Don't send your photo and keep blocking. Hope you didn't send anything else.

I agree with JP69. Defo seems like a scam. Possibly a lady shared your details with someone and this is the latest trick to hook you. Block the number and move on.

I have not sent my photo or revealed any info. But these are sent to my normal cell no, not a punting no. So it is not due to punting activity.

During my chats with this girl I fed her false info, to keep her chatting and hopefully reveal the source of these messages. I looks like the source is a post in a Facebook group not under my name, but made by someone else, recommending me as being generous.

Scammers are on every platform. The green the blue, the red, the yellow, the other green, the other blue, the other blue the other other blue.

If you didn't put an ad out their looking for sugar babies, you can get it's probably a scam and since you've got numerous requests, it's probably the same scammers trying from different accounts. Play with them if you wish but be very careful what you share. Basically don't share anything while trying to get your information. Hell, share false information. Wrong name, some downloaded pic of a dude or whatever but not your details.

Not sure how they got your number unless you gave it to them/her/ him/it.

There is a specific site I cannot mention or I'll be banned for freeloading that is riddled with scammers. Sugarbaby and sugar daddy site where you post or respond to posts.

Recently figured out that majority of those posts are the same guy. He was pretending to be a woman and sending content he clearly got from other girls he probably scammed too.

Rather stick to ESA as it's more reliable.

Do they maybe also say she was going through her phone and came across your number?

Definitely a scam. The fact that they have your personal number means they already possibly have what your name is saved as on Truecaller. What they need is a photo of your face and an explicit pic. They screen shot all that with your messages and send to you and then ask you to pay or else they will release on the web. I was once talking to two "girls" if they were even girls on a site and both wanted to scam me simultaneously. I was chatting on WhatsApp on my punting phone with them and I added them to a WhatsApp group and told them to exchange notes on how to scam better. The one was pissed, more at themselves for not having a shred of my info and that they couldn't do anything against me after I got them good. The other one just blocked me and moved on.

Thanks for that useful reply. I never considered number harvesting via Truecaller. I checked, my number is on there and all these numbers also appear on Truecaller. Everyone of them. I saved all of them as they came in, not as contacts but in a separate text file. That enabled me to check them.
