That's usually exactly what happens and why you should always expect it to happen and not do it.

Pay in person when you see them for the booking and if you want to help out for sad stories, arrange an extended booking for the value and use it before giving it. If she is really in need of the money, of course she will accept a booking and offer service for it. Then you are not scammed, you pay for service and she's getting what she needs. Win-win.

Call the venue where the lady works ask if she is available and then only make payment once you arrived at the venue
