Zanzibar yes.....but Nairobi is definately not a holiday destination (Ive been there allot). Reading thru Jack's past posts, the term "holiday" is also being used very loosely here.

Good luck to all involved anyway.

Minority opinion:

I'm not a beach or bush person (can only cope for a couple of days), but I love the energy given off by different cities. On that basis, Nairobi is a great city. Interesting and varied people, great nightlife and some soul to the place. Give me that over Zanzibari tourist traps any day.

But an acquired taste and depends on the kind of traveler you are.

As for hotels, plenty of decent hotels in Nairobi.

Agree with this. Great hotels in Nairobi. Ol Sereni is awesome! EKA is also not bad. Probably depends on the kind of holiday you have in mind and who you travel with.

Ole Sereni is great. I'd actually go as far as saying the hotels in Nairobi are better, on average, than Joburg. Joburg hotels are bland. The Fairmont, Sankara, Tribe, Ole Sereni, Kempinski in Nairobi are great. And new ones coming.

But yeah, there are different types of travellers. Nairobi is definitely no backwater.
