I am at the point that I am happy for them to double the price per unit, if that allows them to buy diesel and keep it going that way.

*it's not just
- fraud
- corruption
- lack of skills
- poor management
- poor HR policies
- poor procurement policies
- lack of consequences
- poor quality coal
- blatant crime
- sabotage
- unmotivated staff
- cadre deployment
- coal issues
- corporate politics
- racism

It's ALL of it...and perhaps a few I've missed out.

the most critical issue is a lack of skills and lack of motivation from employees to learn.
Some of the practical issues experienced:

-placing an order for bolts where the cost is higher than if they were made of gold. Query with procurement about cost goes nowhere. They are forced to accept it.

-The "anonymous" hotline to report fraud/irregularities is not really anonymous. If it involves someone high enough eg board member or senior management, they can trace who made the call.

-Unengaged employees. Hardly anyone wants to go above and beyond to keep the lights on. If it's time to go home they will not spend an extra hour to avoid stage 6. Arguments about "It's not my job" are rife.

Managers & engineers are afraid to reprimand employees for fear of claims of victimization or racism. These are often taken up by unions who clearly now have too much power.
The result: quality of work and skills of employees have dropped a lot. This is across all races.

-Anyone who can steal and wants to steal, DOES steal. From the top all the way down, they are all running schemes to defraud the utility. It ranges from a few tins of paint and tools to tender fraud.

Employees issued with the minimum set of tools lose/sell them and the checks that used to be in place are not done anymore for fear of claims of victimization. Stores are not managed properly and employees don't have correct tools for the job.

-Poor management. In some cases, management enforce decisions contrary to the advice of engineers amd specialists eg mixing oils that don't mix and will lead to significant planned maintenance downtime later.

-Lack of consequences. You could steal and if you're caught, you resign. That's it. You keep your ill gotten gains. No jail time, no recovery of the funds. Keep your loot. With the smaller cases, there are hundreds/thousands of them so nobody

A common cause for trips /outages besides the main ones of poor quality or wet coal seem to be due to leaks in pipes / tubes. Not just because of stones in the coal, but poor quality repairs which leak again.

What's your source(s) for this?

Not a dig, it's a sincere question.
