Reading this thread has put an idea in my head along the lines of a retainer sort of thing. *Consistent display of a pleasant disposition
*Always looks clean when I see this person

It all depends who you partner up with. I have had numerous retainers with Sage since 2019 and never have we let each other down. Odds of it happening now is very very remote.

I once had a regular thought he owned me just bcz he was a regular. Didn't respect boundaries at all and wanted to chat. Became so needy that he said he took sleeping pills to end hz life bcz i didn't chat to him. All the manipulation and obsessiveness. I rather say no to the money but not going to be bullied and abused.
It can work if people respect each other and the boundaries.

I find that abusive behaviours happens retainer or not.
Manipulation is human nature.
