I got mine in less than one business day from home affairs.

Banks where giving appointment dates for months down the line. I applied and paid online. Opted for home affairs as I didn't want to wait 7 months for an appointment and that was 50kms away unless I wanted to wait longer for a closer branch.

Went one afternoon. Got harassed by some people posing as car guards about paying R3,000 for them to fast track it and I'll have it in 2 days. They're quite persistent and irritating. It's internal people with people outside to get you to take the bait and they use burner SIM's so you don't get to meet them until you pay and then they take you straight in supposedly. They eventually dropped that price to R1,500 which I still figured nah since I already paid the legal fees and wasn't in a hurry. Those idiots did make me wait an hour in a queue outside though, probably making me stew and cave and pay the "fast track fee". There was no one in front of me for passports.

Went in, took 10 minutes to take pictures and sign. Got an SMS the next morning that my passport is ready for collection. This was at Wynberg.

It was before the restrictions where eased though so I guess less people traveling but still, was better than trying to fast track for a ridiculous fee and waiting longer or waiting to the banks to have availability.

Soooo... my driver accompanied me to jhb home affairs this morning.
I paid for a better place in the que. Now that I'm in... we are waiting to come back online again... who knows how long this is gonna take...
