I think it would help to put things in perspective. The presidents of both Brazil and the USA both publicly downplayed the threat of the virus and took little action in the beginning. Look at the numbers there in comparison to ours. Also if the rate of infection remains low, getting back to normal will happen a lot quicker. Government response hasn't been perfect but I think it's been good overall because Cyril takes subject matter experts more seriously and I do too more than I take the opinions of random people on a porn site

so there are a possibility of 1.5 Mil infected people and approx. 105 people dead due to Covin-19 in SA (by law all fatalities need to registered and autopsy done). 105 divide by 1.5 Million equals 0.007% death rate....hmm, just playing with statistic figures.

@Blaza: I did not have much of a problem with the initial lockdown giving time to prepare.
But since you seem pretty smart, I assume you have noticed that SA is a considerably poorer country than the rich world. We under no circumstances can afford to throw money at problems like they can.
Surely you are smart enough not to believe the socialist/communist drivel that we can dish out grants where people don't have to work to earn an income? Or that we will be just fine when more than a million people looses their jobs? What may surprise you is that no government can survive without private sector generated taxes. And we are destroying the private sector to save maybe a few lives...Many more may die from hunger than the lives saved from the virus.

Go on, debate the point to your hearts content. Perhaps it makes you feel better or makes a difference in your life, I'm all for it.

As for the actual content of the debate, I'm well aware of the economic impact. This is not the first pandemic the world has known and much of the current draconian measures the world over are driven by lessons from the Spanish flu pandemic for example. Now even if the there's zero lockdown and it's business continues as normal, the economy will still tank cause that's what pandemics do to economies.

You know when a large number of people get seriously Ill or die at the same time, I'm sure business will be booming when that happens right.

As for the socialist/communist drivel, I'm sure you right about that. All this stuff about people dying must have been invented by them.
