Not an African language, but Portuguese was difficult to learn as an adult. They have so many different ways of addressing family, friends or Elders. Or if you are speaking to a singular person or a group of people. And then they have masculine and femine descriptions and words.

I am still learning. But I can swear like a trooper in Portuguese, and get away with it because not a lot of other people understand me. Lol!

Very easy language to learn, there is a total of "0" Chinese words. To be able to "swear" at them you will have to learn Mandarin, and that my dearest is not an easy task at all.

A bad teacher. He does not know Sunny Leone but to his credit all her Bollywood movies are dubbed as she cannot speak proper hindustani like Katrina Kaif in the old days or SS's Sri Devi.

Moving around as a kid. Every time u end up in a new province in S.A. you got to learn a new African language in school.

Tswane and Zulu and xhosa to name but a few as those whete the language spoken in that area and then on top of it being a mine village kid you picked up on the mine language that is a mixture of a lot of languages.

Later I worked in a company that employed a lot of Malawian and Zimbabwean workers for contract work.

You get a ear for the languages and might be able to follow a conversation to a point but that does not mean u understand it or can speak it. You learn key phrases like greeting or phrases that is related to work. Because of you don't it would be very difficult to communicate in the working environment.

I think people that speak more than two languages fluently are blessed with a awesome talent and brain to process it all.

There was a young man at the same company that spoke 14 languages fluently as well write in them. I was forever in awe listening to how easily he would switch between the languages when having a group meeting. Wondering what he was doing working there and not being employed somewhere else where this language skills would he mote appreciated.
