While it's a natural part of the aging process, starting around age 40, it can be managed with good hygiene practices and potentially with specific skincare products.

As people age, the breakdown of unsaturated fatty acids on the skin, specifically omega-7 fatty acids, leads to the formation of 2-nonenal when exposed to oxygen.
