As soon as we have proper internet (yes we do not have proper internet in SA), the piracy thing will worsen. If you can download it for free why pay. I do not say that piracy is right, just stating a fact. The www is full of free videos, downloading them is not so easy with the stupid broadband we have.

usernametaken, piracy of porn [and mainstream titles] is huge in SA and the whole world as a whole, but there is still a huge paying following because bandwidth is expensive in SA, and torrents take for ever to download. At between R65 and R80 a gigabyte for purchasing data, and the average DVD being a minimum of 4.7 gigabytes, that's R300 - R400 a download. Premium DVD's in their covers cost in the region of R250 - R300, depending on where they are purchased locally.

In fact 60 Minutes did an investigation into the US porn industry and revealed it pockets at least $10 billion a year. More than mainstream Hollywood.

Torrent files (in DIVX format) are also highly compressed ripped files, lacking the clarity of the original DVD's on bigger screens, have no scene selection functionality or working menus and all the other behind the scenes stuff.

Kwaai Naai, SA's first Afrikaans porn fliek has already sold thousands of originals and SA's top selling adult DVD. I have had discussions with the producer, Johan Greef of Funky Frog Productions and they are very happy with the uptake and plan more titles.

In Cape Town there is a fledgeling gay porn production company called Liberate Studios who are already making their 6th title and going strong. [no pun intended].

Despite awaiting a huge flood of indignation from the sheeple of God, there hasn't been any sustained or organised opposition to local porn worth worrying about.

Fuck them anyway! If it wasn't for 'fucking' they wouldn't be around to complain anyway.
