We as the people of this world are the reason it has lost the "old Values". In our strive to become rich and famous, to be better than the guy next door, we have lost our value system. We the current generation are to be blamed for that. We cannot change the past, but can determine about the future.
A lot of people have grown-up in a single parent environment, where the mom had to work to ensure their is food on the table for her kids, some, if not most, of those people have grown into very good role models, so to blame it on the fact that both parents are working and don't have time to educate their kids is absolutely wrong. If they don't have time to raise their children to respect others, to to better themselves and to become someone they can be proud off, they should not have kids in the first place.
Peer pressure is not something new, it has and will always be part of our daily life's. It is how we handle that pressure that matters. How we handle the pressure is testament to our value system.
"how many people know how to debate and not take offense and lash out viciously making it about themselves?"
Very few people know how to agree to disagree, once again comes down to respect. Allow each and everyone his opinion, and if you don't agree, you welcome to raise your own opinion, but do it respectfully.
