Ive started watching this new, very timely, Netflix series called Pandemic, How to prevent a Outbreak. They say in 1918 the flu pandemic killed between 50 and 10p million people but we didn't even have air travel like we have now, we didn't have people traveling all over the world on a daily basis like we have now. The world's population was a "mere" 1.8 billion then, it is now 7.8 billion. We didn't have factory farms with thousands of pigs and thousands of chickens. So it could be hundreds of millions of people that would die from the next pandemic. They also show Bill Gates giving a speech where he says: "Epidemiologists show through their models that any respiratory-spread pathogen would kill more than 30 million people in less than a year. And there is a reasonable probability of that taking place."

Well that pandemic is now here, it is Covid-19.

The H1N1 swine flu virus of 2009 infected 2 billion people within 12 months. It's not a typo - 2 billion. The difference between it and Covid-19 is that H1N1 was not as lethal as Covid-19. They are both influenza viruses. Gets transmitted exactly the same way as any flu virus. It spread like a wild fire as will Covid-19, only Covid-19 is leaving a trail of bodies and collapse of infrastructure and the economy in its wake.

It is no use comparing Covid-19 to something like Ebola - although also a virus, it is not influenza and only spreads through direct contact. Therefore only 50 000 people were infected with the biggest Ebola outbreak ever between 2014 and 2016. Only 3 countries were affected.

If Covid-19 is not contained hundreds of millions will be affected by year end.
