Try a local brand... Three Ships 10year old Single Malt.
I personally was very surprised.
Approx R550

Balvenie 12year double barrel.
Maybe a bit out your price range but definitely worth the money.
Approx R850.

Teelings is a Unique Taste something different as its made from Grain rather than Malt.
I paid approx R450 at duty free so maybe R550?

You made me thirsty so early in the morning

Enjoy.

@Nicky is so right on that, the 12 year works within your budget though if you not looking to spend more

Try Monkey Shoulder blended malt - R550

Balvenie is very good but a bit more expensive

Lagavulin 16yr even better, but is R550x2

Glenfiddich not my taste

I like wine, beer, brandy, vodca, rum, - well basically anything. But i cannot stand Tequila and Whisky. Surely, drinking whisky is just an image thing? - you cannot drink it because it tastes great?

Shenanigans, my clients treat me like a lady, its a great gift in its own.

Mxxx, whisky is the same as dry wine. You learn to love it when you start identifying the different flavours. When i started drinking whisky i had it on the rocks with lime cordial. Now i enjoy it with soda.

I cant say that its because of expensive taste because i like jamesons and glen morange too and really cant drink jw blue label
So its all about the tastebuds

I totally agree with you there Nicky.

Whiskey and wine requires patience and attention to detail and with time you may even drink it straight if its any good.

@Mxxx I guess its a case of different strokes for different folks.
Dont get me wrong I really enjoy beer as well but whiskey will always be my preferred choice.

@Nicky Johnny W is crap in my view merely good advertising.

Jameson is really the reason I fell in love with whiskey.
