... for all capital crimes such as (and in the South African context in particular) murder (of all flavours) rape and sexual crimes against all citizens, including children.

For?
Against?
... and why?

Let's keep it civil and let everyone voice their views on this fun For or Against Friday.

Aaaaaaand, go ...

No.

Please don't create even more work for our over-burdened police force to issue warrants,do actual police work & investigate,& find new ways to exploit women + average Joe's.

They're too busy setting up roadblocks & impropmtu searches around every blind corner of every road in JHB every single day,in the brave attempt to save the dying KFC franchises.(that never, like never ever-ever,like not-even-once,needed saving).

Plus Bafunny-bafunny are not even capable of scoring 1 penalty, how will our Judiciary effectively implement a Death Penalty?

(Maybe I just need to fuck today & stay off Forum,I'm never this morose usually).

Interesting topic,though.

Fappy freak-end,errrybodeeeee!

Many reasons to oppose:

1. Academic studies indicate it is no deterrent. Anedotally it hasn't stopped any mass shootings

2. It costs a huge amount of money (that we don't have) to implement.

3. It violates Human Rights that are enshrined in the constitution - right to life, to not be tortured etc.

Plenty more out there.

Right to live - when the person has taken another human life?

Right to live....
So you murder someone and take their right to live away..
Shouldn't you loose the right that you take away?

1. There are studies showing its "healthy" to smoke. It all depends on who funds the study, what the results whould be.

2. Keeping someone prison for 15 + years must be more exspensive than tying a rope around his neck after a year or 2.

3. Were the victims rights not also enshrined in the constitution, are most murder victims not torture before been killed.

Sorry to say but your arguments against it does not make much sense.

Although is support the death penalty for those who commit intentional murder/s, in SA it will be a means for corrupt people to legally assassinate someone who they want to be rid off. As it is whistle blowers get bumped off and some stooge takes the fall, case in point Babita Deokaran. Imagine how the corrupt one's will turn public sentiment against honest good people and get the public to support an execution.

The Death penalty is a big no no when the leaders are corrupt and bereft of any moral values and ethics.

On the fence about this one

I look at some Asian countries and the crime rate is so low because of the death penalty and think it makes a huge impact .....
But also yes it's a awful way to go about it because who are we to play God ...... It's a tricky one
But with that been said rapist castrating would be great

Death penalties only work as a deterrent if done in public not hidden away and hear the story later. Hence why it works well in some countries and not in others IMHO

Only problem is that our corrupt incompetents will hang the wrong person.
