Can help with cheap meal plans and recipe suggestions.

Pasta ala Olio. Pasta. Oil. Garlic. Chilli. Will fill the tummy. And if you can afford it and need protein. Chopped up grilled chourizo, ham or bacon. Or vary it with shredded chicken. Or a can of Tuna.

Packet soup and bread.

Samp and beans.

Make dumplings. With meals.

Homemade soups. Butternut. Quick and easy. Use leftovers for chicken or any other meat for broth. Add veg or whatever you can afford.

Baked potatoes with a cheap topping.

Some fresh fish is cheaper than processed fish. And healthier.

PM me. I have some knowledge running a restaurant and the way to manage and budget costings per serving.

All the above comes to R1200 and is enough to feed two adults or one adult and two small kids for three weeks.
They will have to pre-cook dishes to make sure they still get the benefit of the fresh veggies in the last week and all bread and fruit should be kept in the fridge to help them last longer.

I don't know what the budget it but I think this is the minimum.

This exercise was done through the pnp app

Hope I was helpful.

I am no food expert, but want to add to add to this worthy post.

Don't forget to add salt, and if you can, pepper and mixed herbs as well.

The best bang for buck protein will be legumes like kidney beans or lentils. Add some eggs. Other proteins become expensive. Maybe mince?

Bread, margarine and peanut butter goes a long way. Bread can be frozen to keep it fresh for longer.

Yeast.

If you are going to buy bread flower, don't forget yeast.

Coffee
Sugar
Salt
Cooking oil
Butter/Margarine

Many people are buying food, but forgetting things like salt, sugar, oil and yeast.

And alcohol. I stocked up on drinks yesterday...

You guys at home with the missus and kids...get lots and lots of alcohol...
