I had the same last year March. Whatsapp has a police picture but a google reverse image search showed it was some cop in the northern cape that had some award.

I kept blocking the numbers until they eventually stopped about a week later.

There are so many ways they get the information, Sometimes a WG on the lower end of the decency spectrum needs cash and other times its off these databases that get sold everywhere.

My cop was from Florida cop shop. eventually stopped when I asked him if he could wait for me by the front desk so I could drive down there quick to turn myself in. They seem to not like it when you co-operate.

I wonder how many guys fall for this?

Arrange to meet the guy somewhere to pay the fine, but instead of doing that, give him a hiding.

i rwcieved the call these morning around 09:00. je said he is captain mahlangu and his srory was rhe same as rhe one i rwcieved latw last year of a certain cpt Botha.
Ro the ladies giving out the nimbers please stop it and ti punters get a punting sim and never share it or save it as your actual name, else the coller ID app will give out your name.

I received the same call today from the so called Captain Johannes Van Zyl, I'm telling you the guy sound so scary and legit, his scam can really win against new punters. Unfortunately for him, in his scam, he's stationed at the very same place as do I, tried to call back the number and it does no longer exist

I was recently almost a victim of this scam. The guy claimed to be a Captain at my local police station... unbeknown to him I recently dealt with the police station on a matter that gave me contacts of some senior officials there. So as soon as he started with his BS I said let me call you back... contacted the Captain I had recently dealt with and asked if he knew anyone with that Name and he told me they have no such person in their ranks.

My case was very clear cut, I had not visited a wg in a long time (months) prior to this day. I then visited a certain house which (as I have since learnt) is known for shady dealings. 2 days after the visit the scam was attempted. The scammer guy mentioned the exact suburb and street which I had visited as well as the accurate date. So it paints a clear picture that the house is linked to the scam. The is no other way that he could have known this much detail with no access to my phone. I did report the lady and house visited to ESA but I have since got no feedback and I see the WG is still on ESA. I went and purchased a punting simcard after that... just to be on the safe side.

Truth be told, I very much doubt that the WG's who sell their numbers actually gets paid for it. Again, last night, someone asking for my numbers. Seeing I delete them daily, that would be tricky but anyway, I told him, to send money first. Tried every trick in the book to see if he'll budge but no. Don't believe they have money to pay. Scam is so old and everyone knows about it, they can't possibly be making money

Got a similar call yesterday from a "Warrant Officer Nkosi" who then handed the phone over to his "Captain Eric".
I only texted with some girls that day, impossible that someone laid charges for "gender based violence". So take care.
