The prostate exam is not so bad, unless your doctor leans over during the penetration and waves both hands near your head shouting...Surprise!!!

I started to have my prostate checked yearly and on the first visit the doctor was not very amused when I said "doctor you are my first"

I would recommend doing a PSA test. Your GP can refer you to Lancet or Ampath. I would recommend Lancet as they have a mobile app and you can see your results on the app.
Based on your age of 40 ideally your PSA levels should be below 4 ng/mL.
You should avoid ejaculation 4 - 5 days till your blood test. Might affect your PSA levels.
If the reading is below 4 nothing to worry and repeat in a couple of years.
If it is above 4 then you need to see an urologist.
He will make you pee into a flow meter to see if you have an enlarged prostrate problem.
He will do a sonar scan and then if necessary a physical examination which is a couple of seconds so no stress.
If you have an enlarged prostrate he might put you on medication and repeat the blood test in a month or two.

Prostrate means lying flat.
Some ladies offer "prostrate massage" - not a bad thing, you lie flat and she gives u a massage!
