I have the same problem Over come this accidentally when one of my regulars offered to use a female condom This worked perfectly. Went back to her for a few years when I wanted to have Full house She left the industry and I had to settled for OWO

As others have said it is largely psychological.
It does help to have the WG use the female condom.
Your soldier's death happens during the transition from having a good boner, then suspended action to wear the jacket then getting back to business. So by using a female one, which some can put on while multitasking on you, the transition feels a lot more "natural" as there is no break and you aim for target while still fully aroused.
