How blessed to be traveling for work.
No not the naughty sort but, work outside the naughty realm.

And what that does is afford me a perspective of many things from a different angle.
For me, I see it as a blessing and hopefully not walking around with blinkers and, thus looking to take the time to think a little deeper about many things.

Durban.

The buying power in Durban has diminished. And I am not talking about buying power in the adult world .
And I am not referring to the economic challenges smacking everybody in the face.

I am talking about a dynamic obvious change that has taken place since my last visit in November.

The African foreigners and their money is missing.
The arrogance of sub Saharan money is missing.
The "legal illegals" that filled the malls, the streets and their "runners" are less obvious.

That money that kept the "economy " in Durban is noticeably less obvious.

The "cleaning", the "sweep", the initiative of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Since my arrival, my curiosity has had me walking around , looking in and asking questions.

A change is taking grip...and I wonder what the impact in the long run shall be and will it give rise and courage for the locals to be seen, heard and take up the initiative to re- invent and fill the holes where opportunity may be and thus the beginning of a new kzn economy and the possibility of making Durban, once again a chosen touristic destination and holiday mecca for the upstanding and good citizens of SA.

I am holding thumbs.

.....and with that, the druglords and their victims no more a norm.

BUT...I have eventually decided to participate in two events that have caught my interest some time back...and thus to Cape Town to go before I return home.

One is a sporting event, casual shall be my participation and more about being part of the energy, passion and desire to add a little toward a worthy cause.

The other fires my arty farty side and thus to mingle with artists, me the unknown losing myself among the creators of stories penned, shared and filmed.

Nervous for both events. Excited for both events.

Durban knows to always feel like home away from home. That realness of community, interaction and a less guarded attitude ,making one feel more welcomed ....a part of the "bigger picture".

Yep.

It must be a thing in the air. No matter the challenges a plate of food shared, tastier, a helping hand sincere, a sharing without concern of hidden motives.

I love my Durban as much as I love my hometown.

And being recognised and acknowledged with all the anomalies that make "RB" is a HUGE HUGE compliment, especially when it comes WITHOUT the intrusive curiosity of simply being nosey.

What that does is make the "loving " more intimate, sincere and deeply satisfying.
