This narrative is so tired and old. Just say it was easier to wait for illegal foreigners because you can exploit them and under pat them.

Who said they were illegal?

If you ever ran a construction project with proper compliance protocols you would know that all workers must have appropriate work permits if not citizens. DoL checks large scale sites. So your comment is both inaccurate and irrelevant. Salaries in the formal construction sector are negotiated and set (these are not "bakkie brigade" projects) so no exploitation going on - just an honest wage for an honest day's work!

My point related to work ethic, but you take it however you chose! I will give legal immigrants every opportunity I can because I think they add tremendously to our society.

Rubbish I have been on numerous construction sites. Most of those men don't have work permits. Construction sites take advantage because we no longer have labour inspectors. Most of those men are paid between R150 and R250 a day for their hard labour. Most of those men are forced to camp at site in shacks and survive on Maize Meal alone.

Lets not jerk each other off here. We both know what happens in construction sites and we both know if South Africa had decent law enforcement and labour inspectors on the ground on construction sites the cheap illegal labour would not be there.

Interesting coming from Malema. Smacks and points to that debilitating pandemic called entitlement.

30 plus years into democracy and the poor are poorer and equality is a farce claimed by those in seats of power keeping the nation uneducated and misinformed, who gladly and willingly finance the governments nepotism and corrupt lifestyles including those of their family and friends.

Bring back education!
Make it the backbone of a growing society producing future leaders SA so desperately needs, leading to critical thinkers asking the right questions and developing longterm sustainable RELEVANT programmes to grow a society, that is divided and segregated presently.

Thousands upon thousands have left.

I do hope there are thousands upon thousands of jobs now available for the south African as I do hope the rape, gender based violence, murders, hijackings and and and will drop drastically .

I sit and twiddle my thumbs and wait to see , like malema said, who the fuck will be prepared to step into the shoes of those that have been chased away .

And who will STILL ask the wrong questions blaming foreigners legit or not while the f#ckers stoking the xenophobic embers look to create greater mayhem and take SA into the age of dictatorship under the Zuma theiving looting clan.

I didn't read all the comments. What I want to say is this, if you live in the suburbs, have medical aid, your kids go to private school, you have no clue what you're talking about.

Try sharing 1 water tap with a 100 foreign strangers. Not because CoJ do not want to connect water to your house, but because an illegal Zimbabwean guy has built a shack in front of your house and they cannot run a pipe anymore or remove him, because the law says, you cannot remove the Zim guy unless you give him alternative accommodation. Most terrible law ever created.

Try queueing the whole day at the clinic with 100s of foreigners, or your child cannot find space at the only accessible school where half the learners are illegal immigrants.

Now let's talk about jobs. Basically cheap labour of the old apartheid system has been recreated through illegal immigrants. You only need to check who the biggest defenders of illegal immigration are to know who really benefits from this mess. Yes people are getting jobs since some illegal immigrants have left. There are many stories about this if you follow March and March socials.

All noted Autolegspreader.

How's,about stopping blaming apartheid.
Especially when those who fought for equality hold their own to ransom and have stolen the future of many a youngling that could have been a rising star.

Chris Hani..way way back in 69 pointed to the corruption of the top 6.

He saw it bfr democracy happened.

He had to be silenced. It didn't suit the fight for "equality".

It didn't suit the future leading party...anc

Nowhere in my comment am I blaming apartheid for the failures of the current government RB. I hate the current bafoonery presiding over this great country. I have been voting against them for a while now and will vote against them again this coming November. Hope this time I win.

What I am saying though is this. The beneficiaries of apartheid cheap labour system are the same beneficiaries of this new form of cheap labour provided by illegal immigrants.

Their sympathy and effort made to defend illegal immigration is not a principled one. It is this privileged group and government seemingly siding with them instead of implementing the immigration law, that will lead us to disaster as country.

I get you now.

A question on this point of yours Autolegspreader...

"...What I am saying though is this. The beneficiaries of apartheid cheap labour system are the same beneficiaries of this new form of cheap labour provided by illegal immigrants."

Do you not think the toi toing, unrests the looting, damaging infrastructure, scaring foreign investment away, companies closing down due to non productivity all thanks to south africans attitude of entitlement due to no understanding of how the economy churns and turns, the false promise of jobs and homes and land...costing SA billions...
Government in bed with COSATO...
Was like ransoming business into seeking other resources hoping to stabilize the economy and woe foreign investment back?...that loophole.

Is ramaphosa not from the house of COSATU and firmly in the pockets of many an oligarch and corporate...as is Zuma in the pockets of the highest illegal tobacco dealers and who knows who else.

Any sign of unrest or instability,is never a good thing and the ANC is entirely to blame for this. I will also add that the ANC was and continues to share corruption with big businesses.

Now to the unions and labour issues in general. In SA salaries are very affordable, cheap in fact. Where there is no greed, paying minimum wages shouldn't be a problem. Greed is what makes some employers hire illegal immigrants over locals mre than work ethic issues.

What I believe is a real problem with current rules is:
1. onerous compliance requirements, especially on small businesses.
2. difficulty in dismissing or firing a person once you have employed them. This affects employers of all sizes.

The attitude thing or work ethic where it exists would be greatly resolved if it was easy to let go a person who is the the wrong fit. Making it hard for employers to dismiss is very counter productive when you want employers to create jobs and hire more people. The ANC and its unions do not get this unfortunately. However paying minimum wages and paying all sector agreed benefits to employees is the right thing to do in country like SA. What stops it is pure greed.

This is where discussions such as these lose me.
